Move Your Course Online Session 2 - Shared screen with speaker view
I can hear her fine
great! Thank you!
I can hear too. Thank you! Please share slides after this training.
Yes- we are giving everyone slides and the video I am recording of her talk today. She is going to be giving this same talk a total of 6 times. We are choosing the best one and sending everyone a link to the video.
Thank you very much for doing it!
are you all comfortable with canvas?
Feel free to ask question here.
We typically suggest you request captioning. However, ITS has asked that only those who have students requiring an accommodation request CC during our current situation.
This is likely an issue with the technology in the room, not a problem with VidGrid. The VidGrid software is user friendly and effective. If you want individual support with VidGrid after this session, feel free to contact Eyde or me.
Yes, patience is No. 1!
you can use zoom for small discussions, but don’t record. It was a question about small class size communication.
The instructor indicated that her grad class of 6 preferred to meet via zoom.
question: what is the most effective way to demonstrate something and allow students to ask quesitons?
He needs to demonstrate how to do mathematical proofs
I on’t understand the “Canvas Conferences are a backup to Zoom.” Should we use one OR the other or BOTH?
We are suggesting that you use Zoom. ITS has been assured that it will remain functional through our transitions. If, for some reason, Zoom does not work, then try Conferences.
Got it. Thanks.
can students respond in real time?
Math prof is asking more specific question...
Hang on please. I will narrate
Her still wants to do a proof in real time.
how are you transferring back a forth between the board and you talking?
do this in powerpoint.
Now three people are talking.
Scrble for Mac?
chad is checking
“what is the best way for students to give presentations"
it would be prerecorded. cannot be interactive.
for short presentation/discussion and want everyone to respond to it… flipgrid
we still don’t know about scrble for mac. Sorry about that.
How to practice grammatical models in a foreign language/ Japanese with students. F2F we use CD and students repeat after it (it won't be a problem) but when we go over exercises and a student responds incorrectly, how to catch an individual mistake?
We just googled it. And saw a bunch of icons pop up.
can you hear chad?
Sound comes and goes.
Since multiple people in the room started talking the sound is going in and out.
EG: Chad is loud and clear right now
How about using the “raise hand” feature for moderation?
responding to Hadley — You could record with pause for students to respond. You could have students practice in pairs or trios in zoom groups
Happy to troubleshoot more ideas later
Zoom is better than Conferences which has limitations.
Penbook seems to be a good Mac alternative to Scrble
thank you, Doug!
Thanks! I’ll check it out.
What id you say about synchronous?
We are suggesting, as much as possible, instruction is done asynchronously.
