could you repeat the question?
Robert Vavala
47:25
"Sometimes the technology gets tired."--Eyde Olson
Robert Vavala
48:17
It DOES work. Eyde or I can help you if need be.
Manda Williamson
54:47
if you have too many tabs open, it will NOT record.
Robert Vavala
57:33
If you're working on multiple screens, you can pause your recording, move the recorder to a different screen and start recording again.
bwhitaker1
58:33
How easy is it to edit and add to after you record a session?
Manda Williamson
01:00:30
Robert-do you see the question, please?
Manda Williamson
01:00:51
IN the meantime-by “edit”-do you mean cut the length or splice it…or something else?
Robert Vavala
01:01:05
Yes, I PMed Beth
Manda Williamson
01:01:11
thank you!
Robert Vavala
01:03:49
To answer Beth's question, editing, especially the ends, is fairly easy. Detailed editing is more difficult and, in our current situation, probably not a priority. Eyde or I can, if our schedules allow, meet with you individually or in small groups.
Kati Brazeal
01:03:52
how long does it take for the captioning to get added
etsuko
01:03:54
Can we see the size of the video file, not just the length?
Kati Brazeal
01:04:07
can students watch the video before it's captioned?
Boone Evans
01:04:54
I remember seeing somewhere a warning against requesting CC for videos as there will be considerable demand for captioning. Should we just request CC anyways?
Robert Vavala
01:05:38
The length of time it takes to get captioning will depend on the work load that ITS has. We generally suggest everybody have CCs added. However, because of potential overload, for now, ITS wants only those who have students requiring accommodations request captioning.
Robert Vavala
01:06:04
Katie, yes students can see the video with or without captioining. As long as they have the link.
Manda Williamson
01:06:14
I think what we are going to do, since we have 5 more of these..I am going to capture each specific demo she did, pick the most successful iteration and post short videos of the successful demos of vidgrid , rich text recording, zoom. This is in addition to the entire presentation that we are recording. By thursday, I am hoping to share the “best” entire presentation and the best of each short demo. Hang in there, everyone.
Boone Evans
01:07:45
will the following sessions follow the same set of slides?
Manda Williamson
01:08:11
yes-no changes to slides will occur.
Boone Evans
01:08:23
Thank you.
Robert Vavala
01:08:25
Boone, yes, the plan is for all of the sessions to be the same. They may end up not being identical but the general outline will be the same.
Stacie Swinehart
01:08:48
For Programs in English as a Second Language, we may be required to be online for so many hours a week on Zoom for our students. I would like to learn how to use breakout rooms for group work.
Robert Vavala
01:09:48
Stacie, we can go over that after. Eyde supports the ESL programs.
Stacie Swinehart
01:10:11
Okay, thanks.
Robert Vavala
01:11:11
"A note on the student perspective: we are asking them to complete a course in a modality they didn’t sign up for.. instead of worrying only about them cheating, we need to have compassion on the change being forced on them and the fact that most on line courses have lower success rates than their face to face counterparts/ we should consider giving students the option to decide if they’d like grade weighting.. more emphasis can be placed on their first half grade than their second half of the don’t transition well...”
Ken
01:12:27
Manda your mike is still live
Jean Marcel Ngoko Djiokap
01:12:43
manda mute your mic
Manda Williamson
01:12:57
If you can, try alternative assignments…if testing truly sucks…can you try something else?
Manda Williamson
01:13:07
right. sorry.
Boone Evans
01:13:26
Will SSD be open to accommodate students to take exams in person?
Manda Williamson
01:13:48
we are entirely remote now. I don’t believe they can take it in person. I will check right now.
Robert Vavala
01:14:00
I don't think SSD will be open
Boone Evans
01:14:09
Thank you.
Manda Williamson
01:14:11
they cannot take tests at SSD any longer
Jean Marcel Ngoko Djiokap
01:14:33
Will this webinar be available to us as a guide?
Robert Vavala
01:14:55
All of the sessions will be recorded.
Manda Williamson
01:15:03
yes. I am going to choose the best one (she’s doing this exact talk 5 more times) and I will send out a link to the presentation.
Jean Marcel Ngoko Djiokap
01:15:28
Thanks.
Manda Williamson
01:15:46
absolutely.
Karrie Weber
01:16:04
For large courses ~150+ (without a TA) …how would you recommend to manage and keep up with student questions in an asynchronous manner?
Manda Williamson
01:17:06
I always copy the question and post it in a “questions” area that I created in “modules” within my canvas course. Direct students to regularly check that area when you post announcements to them
Robert Vavala
01:18:15
InterNOT.
Manda Williamson
01:18:46
if you have pedagogy related questions (like large courses questions) and you would like a faculty member to discuss…email me, please.
Manda Williamson

Robert Vavala
01:19:23
Additionally, Eyde and I can help in that regard to keep from overloading Manda.
Karrie Weber
01:19:27
Thanks
Ken
01:23:12
Q: Is there a straightforward way to have collaborative student presentations or is that something that will likely need to be changed?
Robert Vavala
01:24:31
They might be able to get togeher in a Zoom room and record.
Ken
01:24:47
okay thank you
Robert Vavala
01:25:40
Keeping in mind, regardless of how they end up presenting, that it might not end up looking like the origional intention.
Robert Vavala
01:26:22
This will be another example of our need to be flexible.
