Thanks June. I was just looking for that information.
The URL for the slides, I mean.
Can the audio recordings be captioned in Canvas?
Not sure. Will look into it.
Cathy, Here's a link to a Canvas help page re captioning audio created within the RCE: https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-13043-4152719744
I have not used it so I'm not sure about its accuracy.
I tried captioning with Sam Baird at Brace this morning and it works well!
Is that message about requesting captioning consistent with what we are hearing about keeping it limited to large lecture and those classes with students who have a need for it?
I added it for a Listening/Speaking English course for International Students, to send out announcement yesterday on where we are at UNL and to see how things are going for them, if still on campus or left for home country, etc. I was important for this course.
Oh, no, I’m sure it was! I have some needs in my course as well. I was referring to what I was hearing in Eyde’s presentation—it sounded like she said to request it on our videos. I maybe mis-heard her?
I’m not sure. I know the VidGrid captioning goes through media hub — and we are trying to avoid overwhelming that service because although it is automated, it is checked by human beings and so we risk over-running the service. not sure if the audio captioning goes through the same route
I just got notice via email that mine is done, less than an hour, but important for my Japanese lower-level student, for example. Just trying out what was suggested by Eyde yesterday!
Sorry — let me clarify my last statement: request captioning if you know you have a student who needs the accommodation or if you are teaching a large class. Don’t if you have a small class with no known needs
If you know that a student has sketchy internet access, please be mindful that this student cannot jump in synchronously
Better to have lessons presented as downloadable videos, not live lessons.

Can I chime in quick
Yep. on it , hang on..I will call it out
Actually, Central Daylight Time
You could record on the ipad and upload to vidgrid I think
Here is a recording that David made: https://canvas.unl.edu/courses/51131/discussion_topics/457722
You should be able to start the VidGrid recording and record what you write/draw on the iPad. There is also free software (Explain Everything, among others) that aid with that. I know of faculty in Physics that have done that.
Synchronous is tough because students’ schedules have changed dramatically. I would think tough to get everyone together at one time under current circumstances. I think we have to be mindful of how many new technologies are being introduced across classes. From student perspective, students may be overwhelmed with 5 new technologies (1 per class)

Advanced technique is using the Guest Recorder Link on VidGrid: https://help.vidgrid.com/en/articles/2554067-using-the-guest-recorder
